Identified Stock Products

Stock Identifier is used as one of the batch separators in warehouse management. Stock Identifier is defined for a product for a particular period of time. This would be very valid requirement in pharma industry or FMCGs where the produce has a validity date and time. Now take the case of pharma industry which manufactures a medicine, lets say "A",which comes with expiration date within 12 months of production date. Now the case is that same set-up of production line is used for producing other medicines and the production is done in batches. Now if the turn for manufacturing "A" comes 15 days later, then I do need to have a stock separator for "A"s which were produced 15 days ago and for "A"s which are produced today and Istock helps in achieving this function.

How to make a product an IStock product -
a) In the material master, we should first configure the product to be an Istock Product by selecting "Mandatory Identified Stock" option or "Optional Identified Stock" option.
b) Create a new Identified Stock with respect to this product and provide production and expiration date for the same.
c) Activate the Identified Stock so that it could be used in Warehouse Execution process.
d) Additionally we can attach a Product Specification Description to an Identified Stock if the Stock is manufactured as per a specification for the product variant, say change in colour, dilution etc.

When do we use Identified Stock ?
When we do a task confirmation for the Inbound Delivery or for Outbound Delivery, then if the product is maintained as an Identified Stock product, we need to mention the Identified Stock. Identified Stock could also be maintained for produce where we see deviation in quality and hence would like to sell batches of the produce at different rates depending on the quality.

My musings on supply chain

I have created this blog to note down what I learn about supply chain management through my day to day interactions with customer problems or through the ERP product which I have been working on for the past 3 and half years. I am not an industry expert on supply chain as I have not yet ventured out of my development world but would love to do it soon this year. What you will find here is just the basic stuff about supply chain from a developer's point of view. I work for the product Business By Design which is meant for SMEs basically. Happy reading !
